SILCHAR: Another sizable consignment of narcotic tablets was seized by a team of Assam Police on Monday, November 14.

According to reports, the consignment was picked up by the suspected peddlers from neighbouring Manipur. And they were supposed to be delivered to West Bengal when they were confiscated during transit through Assam. The team managed to seize a total of 54000 Yaba Tablets during this drug bust and the international value of the captured narcotics is said to be around Rs 13.5 Crs.

A team of police personnel from Lakhipur in the Cachar District of Assam managed to capture the consignment as well as two drug peddlers who were in possession of the Yaba Tablets. The report put the number of tablets at 54000, which is a very large number. The names of the suspects have been revealed as Nazim Uddin and Abdul Razak.

The official handle of Cachar Police tweeted, "Lakhipur Police arrested 2 persons Nazim Uddin & Abdul Razak & seized 54000 YABA tablets from their possession. They were trying to transport the consignment from Manipur to West Bengal via Assam."

Due to its position as a border district, Cachar has become a very important point for drug transit in the region. Different narcotic substances including cannabis, heroin and different tablets have been captured from different locations in this district. Towards the end of the last month, similar narcotic tablets worth Rs 160 Crs were captured from the district.

At the beginning of the month, Yaba tablets worth Rs 15 Crs were captured from a vehicle on the outskirts of the capital city of Guwahati. The tablets were found in hidden compartments of a Hyundai i20 vehicle with Delhi registration plates. On the evening of the same day, another consignment worth Rs 5 Crs was captured in Guwahati by Assam Police.
